Favorite Find Friday

I found this lovely whimsical teapot at my local Habitat for Humanity ReStore. I forget exactly how much I paid but it was probably around $3 or $4. It makes me think of Beatrix Potter stories and cozy British tea parties. I haven't yet used it for tea, but if this rainy weather keeps up, I just might break it out for what Winnie-the-Pooh referred to as "elevenses."

Thrifty Score--Rowdy Red Petticoat!

I walked into one of our local Salvation Army stores and there it was, hanging on the end of a rack: a big, fluffy red petticoat, the kind worn by girls in Wild West saloons, or French can-can dancers, or maybe even some extra bold country square dancers. I tried it on. Luckily, this was not a petticoat made for some skinny Minnie--it fit size 14 me. Reader, I bought it. The best part? It cost a mere $5.00. With adjustment it can be worn by a slim seven-year-old, as seen here, and it also can apparently do double duty as a cat corral. Now what will I wear it with? Hmmm...

How This Blog Got Its Name

Here's the story. My Grandma, Ilean Thomas Ingram, was a "backyard sale" aficionado. It was a love we shared as I grew old enough to drive the two of us around to sales. One of her great joys was to show off one of her finds and crow, "I gave a whole DIME for it!" It has become a family tagline for thrifty finds. I miss my backyard sale buddy.

Welcome to "I Gave a Whole Dime"

Greetings, fellow thrifters! My name is Jeannette and I love thrift stores, junk shops, antique malls, and garage sales. I'll be honest--I created this blog because I love to show off my favorite thrifty finds. I also hope that this blog will motivate me to actually make use of some of the materials I have thrifted over the years that are now languishing in an extremely untidy heap o' stuff in my craft room. So let's talk thrift together, friend!
